What is divorce mediation?
Divorce mediation refers to a divorce tactic where the two spouses settle the issues of the divorce with the help of a mediator, usually a social worker or a lawyer. The mediator will hear the issues, explain the divorce laws, facilitate discussion, suggest solutions, and help the spouses come to a divorce agreement. The process can be simple or extensive, depending on how far apart the couples are. Once the agreement is reached, each spouse will then return to his and her respective attorneys to look over and modify the agreement, and then the agreement is submitted to a court, and a judge will sign off on it.
