How do I choose a mediator?
Mediators are not subject to licensure standards in most states, so it’s important to vet any potential mediators; find out, for example, if the mediator has either a law degree or a degree in social work or psychology. Furthermore, it’s important to find out if the mediator has mediation experience and is knowledgeable of divorce laws in your state. Also, find out how much your mediator charges up front, and whether he or she has any hidden fees. Above all else, ask for references, and follow up by calling them.
