A French court has barred a Swiss company from saying its cookies are “from Champagne.”

"Protected designation of origin" is one of the stupider ideas to come out of France. The idea is not free-market, does not actually help consumers, and is really just protectionism. If people care where their champagne comes from, they'll look at the label for the location of the vineyard.
