What is visitation?
Even if parents are divorced and one parent has sole legal and physical custody, courts still prefer to have both parents in the child’s life. Therefore, courts will grant reasonable and regular visitation to non-custodial parents, except in the rare case that visitations would harm the child or work against the child’s best interest. Visitation thus refers to the regular time that non-custodial parents get to spend with the child, either on the weekends, holidays, or special occasions.
