This is an outrage. An outrage!

prisoner.jpgIn Benton County, Arkansas (homeland of our own Dustin!), prison inmate Broderick Lloyd Laswell is pissed off, and he’s not taking it anymore. Laswell has filed a civil rights lawsuit claiming that the inmates aren’t being given enough food. Among other things, his complaint says:

On several occasions I have started to do some exercising and my vision went blurry and I felt like I was going to pass out.
About an hour after each meal my stomach starts to hurt and growl. I feel hungry again.
If we are in a small pod all day do next to nothing for physical exercise we should not lose weight.
The only reason we lost weight in here is because we are literally are being starved to death.

Here’s the thing though — Laswell is 308 pounds, down from a svelt 413 when he started in the clink eight months ago.

First of all, fatty should be thankful for a diet that gets rid of over 100 pounds in under a year. Second of all, so the State is supposed to pay to feed him the trough-loads of food he requires to keep himself “healthy” and nourished? Really?

I'm not positive, but doesn't losing 25% of your body fat in that amount of time count as anorexia? There's a good chance that even though he was morbidly obese to begin with he's actually experiencing muscular atrophy, and might have some success in this.

I'm with Donnie. Fat or not, losing that much weight in that short a time period is not healthy. Anorexia, no, but unhealthy weight loss, absolutely. You don't lose 100 pounds in 8 months by eating healthy portions of food.

actually no, losing that much weight is fine as long as its not weight in muscle. The problems with weightloss (when you are at such a high weight) are with the bones and muscles, if he is getting the daily allowance of calcium and protein he should be fine. Also to maintain a weight of more than 400lbs you have to eat double the daily allowance of calories, thats 5000. That means if he is eating 2500 he should lose about 170lbs in 8 months, at 100 he is absolutely fine.

Um...healthy weightloss aside, someone needs to do an expose on how much food prison facilities waste every day, because it's a TON. I saw some of the waste when I was studying Legal Psychology, but my husband's ex-con friends who worked in the kitchen (and talk to other ex-cons) confirmed that the kitchens they'd seen throw out literally a ton of food a day, so the state paying for extra food objection doesn't fly because the food is THERE, it's just not being given to the prisoners.

im sick of prisoners bitching.

You're a PRISONER dude.

You commited a crime and by law, as a punishment, certain human rights are suspended. deal.

I dont know how it is in the US but over here prisoners get playstations in their cells, better central heating and electricity than some council estates(projects) in prisons in the UK its like a fuckin hotel, there's an urge to commit a crime just for the BENEFITS.

fuckin complainin he's losing weight, shut the fuck up dude. Maybe if you slim down you wont get caught next time cos you'll be able to run

Hmmm. I'll bet Nadine has not seen a prison in Arkansas.

When you're morbidly obese like that, 100 lbs in 8 months is not so crazy. Up to 4 lbs/week is pretty acceptable for somebody THAT overweight, and this guy only averaged 3 lbs/week.

You commited a crime and by law, as a punishment, certain human rights are suspended. deal.

1893 called - it wants its opinions back.
