Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?

0_61_mccain_finger.jpgA reporter recently asked John McCain a fairly straightforward question, one that most 9-year-olds know the answer to, and McCain gave a response that pretty much confirms people’s fears that a McCain presidency would be a four-year-continuation of the Bush Administration:

Q: Do you think contraceptives help stop the spread of HIV?
Mr. McCain: (Long pause) You’ve stumped me.
Q: I mean, I think you’d probably agree it probably does help stop it?
Mr. McCain: (Laughs) Are we on the Straight Talk express? I’m not informed enough on it. Let me find out. You know, I’m sure I’ve taken a position on it on the past. I have to find out what my position was. Brian, would you find out what my position is on contraception – I’m sure I’m opposed to government spending on it, I’m sure I support the president’s policies on it.

I don’t know which is worse: 1) That he apparently doesn’t know that the use of condoms reduces the risk of AIDs; 2) That he doesn’t remember if he’s ever taken a position on the issue; or 3) That his fallback position is apparently whatever George Bush says.

Good lord!

I may go cry now. My husband keeps telling me that if Hillary beats Obama, he'll be voting for McCain and that his positions on contraception aren't enough reason not to vote for him. I just can't explain this to him. Maybe I can just send him the link.

There is no way that John McCain does not believe in contraception preventing diseases, he was in the navy. Believe me, one of the first things taught in boot camp is how, and graphically why, you need to wrap your tool. Hell, they show all the photos and videos throughout the ship every time there is a pull in. I think the problem is that his base is basically everyone who hates Hilary and those afraid of Barrack. His basic platform is four more years of Bush. If the neo conservatives were against water, he would start campaigning against it. He isn't stupid, he's just completely fucking soulless...like everyone else running.

to hell with pregnant women, can we get politicians classified as disabled (mentally, to be exact)?

I'm not a big McCain guy, but that question was confusing to me, too. Sure, condoms help prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS, but contraceptives in general, no.

I mean, the birth control pill is a contraceptive and it's not preventing AIDS anytime soon.

I propose that we build a new colony on the moon to get away from this insanity.
