What is the Uniform Trade Secrets Act?

The Uniform Trade Secrets Act, often referred to as the UTSA, is a proposed law drafted by legal scholars which addresses many of the issues surrounding trade secrets, and presents a suggested way of handling trade secrets. Over 40 states have adopted statutes which are minor variations on the UTSA, meaning that, while there are differences from one state’s trade secret laws to the next, most states have very similar legal standards regarding the issue.
