What is an attribution share alike license?

Within the context of the Creative Commons, an attribution share alike license is one of the six main types of creative commons licenses. As explained by the Creative Commons: “This license lets others remix, tweak, and build upon your work even for commercial reasons, as long as they credit you and license their new creation under the identical terms.” Thus, this license is one of the least restrictive of the creative commons licenses, since the user can create derivative works and can use the original work or the derivative work for non-commercial as well as commercial purposes. The only major restrictions placed on the user is that there must be proper attribution to the original author and any derivative works must be subject to the same license (that is, “share alike”).
