What are the creative commons licenses?

One of the ways the Creative Commons has worked to meet its goal of a new protective-yet-permissive copyright scheme is by the creation of six creative common licenses which are placed on/in works by their authors and allow viewers and users to quickly and clearly understand how they can and cannot use the work. There are four different concepts that are used by these creative commons licenses in various combinations: (i) attribution; (ii) non-commercial; (iii) no derivative works; and (iv) share alike.

These concepts have been combined to create the six main types of current creative common licenses include: (i) attribution non-commercial no derivatives; (ii) attribution non-commercial share-alike; (iii) attribution non-commercial; (iv) attribution no derivatives; (v) attribution share alike; and (vi) attribution.
