So, yeah, it might seem funny that those who love Schlitz and Colt 45 here in Seattle may have the number of places where they can buy them be limited (and, I guess, it is to an extent) but actually, what the WSLCB is trying to do (with the blessings of our fair, conservative-minded city) is sweep the issue of public drunkeness and homelessness under the rug.

The Alcohol Impact Area they are trying to set up (and the one that is already up and running in downtown and the International District (our PC euphemism for "Chinatown") makes it illegal to sell the kinds of cheap liquor that very, very poor people drink.

Now, I am all in favor of trying to help alcoholics (especially the chronic street drinkers) get off the stuff, but all this stupid scheme does is force the drinkers to the next neighborhood where they can buy the stuff. Hence the new AIA in the areas RIGHT NEXT DOOR TO THE ORIGINAL ONE.

Did we not learn the lesson with prohibition? The drunks ain't gonna stop drinking, they'll just stop drinking where they can buy the stuff. But hey, in Seattle's mind, who cares? At least they won't be here anymore.
