Here’s Your Republican V.P. Pick

capt.1b8e7bf6280b4fde904b3ef87c9ff9c4.cvn_mccain_veepstakes__ny108.jpgWell, she’s pretty. In fact, she was the runner-up in a Ms. Alaska contest. Also, according to Wikipedia, “she hunts, eats moose burgers, ice fishes, rides snowmobiles, and owns a float plane. Palin holds a lifetime membership with the National Rifle Association. She admits that she used marijuana when it was legal in Alaska, but says that she did not like it.”

Didn’t like it?

But Alaska? And really: McCain is trying to win over Hillary supporters after the speech Hillary delivered this week, after Obama’s speech last night? I don’t think there are any Hillary Clinton supporters left to win over.

Interesting choice. But, really: Not a bad one. Just kind of … huh?

Mc’Alin 08?

Update: What the Sam Hell? Did anyone listen to her speech? Good Lord — “SNL” is gonna have a field day with her. They should bring back Cheri Oteri, put her in a cheerleader outfit, and have her play this woman. She actually sounded like a PTA Mom.

So out of her league.

She had a baby — her fifth — in April. A baby with Down’s Syndrome. And she went back to work three days later. I am as feminist as they come, but shit on a cracker: You need to stay home and hug that baby for a few weeks. Both her and her husband. Jesus Christ — how can you trot out family values when you won’t — when you can — stay home a week or two and be with your disabled child? That’s what FMLA is for. It’s not like she just adopted a dog — she delivered a child into the world. And she goes right back to work?

Woah. My Arkansas just came out there. Sorry about that.

Still: Really?

Um, Dude, you need to go back smoking the expensive crack. There are Hillary supporters that will never under no circumstances vote Obama. There are more than a few that would be happy to hold him down and help Ole Jesse take his nuts off.

Like everything else coming out of the McCain campaign, this is just so transparent and obvious.

He has no subtlety or finesse at all.

I was hoping that he would pick Lieberman because that would exponentially raise the chance of fisticuffs at the VP debates...and who wouldn't love that?

Not so much now, I guess.

Smart choice and he will get many HRC voters now, should put him over the top. Now, it's McCain's to lose.

I object to the suggestion that Dustin would ever smoke cheap crack. And, in my experience, marijuana always makes the moose burgers taste better.

She has five children. The first one is a soldier. The last one is an infant with Down Syndrome. Obviously they don't want her to do any actual work with all that distraction.

This is a terrible choice. She is so adamantly pro-choice that she is a traitor to her sex. That will NOT win over Hillary supporters.

Heh. This is a great pick. Just think: "While Obama voted to kill people like this --shows her baby with Down Syndrome--I chose to have my child."

But you Obamabots keep chanting "Heil Obama!" and genuflecting at his feet, hoping he heals you. Underestimating Palin is what lots of others have done.

And dude--I'm sure she could kick your rear end from here to Sunday. She's been a commercial fisherman, breaking her fingers in the process. She hunts moose. While you sip your latte and pretend to be a feminist, the Republicans went and put a woman on the ticket.

And while Obama is trashing her small town roots (She's another bitter clinger!), she has more executive experience than Obama has anything. Though Obama does have the "I am the Messiah!" cult status, I agree.

Vanceone, you forgot a couple of essential words in your comment, so I'll help you out:

liberal
elitist
commie

This made my day - thank you, John McCain, for choosing a creationist with no foreign policy experience who's already under investigation for misusing her office despite having only held office for 18 months! Cheers!

The Republican VP pick is Tina Fey?

Whoa. I am watching her speech right now, and "lightweight" doesn't even begin to cover it. Yikes!

"USA! USA!"

Good lord.

"Nookular"!!!

(and completely tangentially, did she just say her sons names are "Track" and "Trig"?!?!?!?!??)

I guess she won't be supporting a whole lot of legislation for extended maternal leave, huh?

I for one am inspired by her baby-naming ability (her other children are Bristol, Piper, and Willow). I plan to name my kids "Oak", "Javelin", "Trombonist", "Differential Calculus" and "Truth or Consequences, New Mexico".

"I am as feminist as they come, but shit on a cracker: You need to stay home and hug that baby for a few weeks. Both her and her husband."

With all due respect - and it's real respect - I like this blog and the writers... but if she were a guy I can guarantee this wouldn't even be an issue. He ought to stay home like you said, but if some other obligations come up, like a nomnation for VP, I bet it would be compassion - "ohh sad for him" and not "And he goes right back to work?" which is unnecessarily judgmental, and totally not feminist at all.

McCain has totally lost it...what a joke and insult to women and men who have years of experience in public service.

I am definetly a Hillary supporter, yet not just because she is a women. It is because she has the experience and proven dedication as a public servant and stands strong on specific issues I value. I also feel it is appropriate for a woman to hold the highest office in the land when they have real experience and know how.

This VP candidate pick is totally out of her league....just because she has some moxy..like the comment above "And dude--I'm sure she could kick your rear end from here to Sunday. She's been a commercial fisherman, breaking her fingers in the process. She hunts moose. While you sip your latte and pretend to be a feminist, the Republicans went and put a woman on the ticket." WOW really qualifies her to lead this nation - Hey I grew up with 4 brothers, went hunting also, raised animals, farmed etc..heh I qualify for VP TOO! yiphee

McCain has suffered from cancer, is medically questionable and (as if he really was most capable at leading) it's even scarier to think she is JUST A HEARTBEAT AWAY FROM BEING PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES?? WHAT IN THE WORLD WERE THEY THINKING!!

The fact she is attractive, smart etc...is to her credit.....yet it feels almost slimy using her as bait for Votes. absurd!!

Thank you again to McCain for your well thought out plan. There was no way before...and now there is absolutely no way ever with this ticket, it is comical to say the least.

Damn....and I was afraid that Obama would mess himself up with HIS vp selection but I don't think it's possible to do any worse than this. Way to set the bar, McCain!

THANK YOU- I have been saying that about her staying home with her kid ever since i heard- i hate that her idea of pro-life is to have the baby and then ignore it to go push your politcal agenda. I'm all for independent working moms, but SHIT if your kid has special needs you should attend to them! And sadly, there are many hillary supporters that won't back obama to save their lives. unfortunately many of them are thinking of voting for mccain when my adivce would be to just stay home and not vote. if you can't have hil, mac is NOT the next best thing! ay yi yi i hope this backfires.
