Should I be paid for lunch and rest breaks?
First off, federal law does not require your employer to even offer you a lunch of coffee break (though, this may differ in many states). However, if your employer does offer short breaks (5-20 minutes), federal law considers this break time that must be paid (though, pay is not required for unauthorized extensions of the break). Meal times, which usually last from half an hour to one hour are different under federal law, and the employer does not have to pay for this time (though, the employer certainly has the option to do so).
