What is the new alternative motor vehicle credit?

Before the 2006 tax year, you used to be entitled to a deduction for the purchase of a hybrid vehicle. Congress has amended the tax laws to instead create this alternative motor vehicle credit, which covers other alternative fuel cars in addition to hybrids (such as cars that utilize fuel cells).
