Should I use the do-it-yourself divorce method?

Do-it-yourself divorce (or pro se divorce) is generally most appropriate in the following circumstances: Your marriage didn’t last long; you and your spouse have little or no assets or debts; and you have no children. However, do-it-yourself divorces can still be risky, because it’s not only a very complex matter, but it puts a huge strain on the court system and the participants. Moreover, doing your own divorce can be very time consuming and tedious, requiring a number of detail steps and attention to details, including drafting pleadings with affidavits and accompanying forms; filing the papers appropriately; paying court fees; and fulfilling the requirements of the court (such as attending counseling sessions). It takes a very organized, efficient, and deadline oriented person to pull it off successfully.
