Does a trustee get compensation?
As with many other things relating to trusts, the question of whether a trustee gets compensation varies from case to case. If the trust explicitly says the trustee is entitled to compensation, then he or she receives such compensation. Similarly, if the trust explicitly says that the trustee is not entitled to compensation, then they do not get anything. Where the trust is silent as to the issue of compensation, many states have passed laws stating that the trustee is entitled to some compensation. These laws typically define how much compensation the trustee is entitled to, based on various factors such as the value of the trust property or how much work the trustee must do to maintain the trust.
