What is the difference between TESS and TARR?
The United States Patent and Trademark Office maintains two free online databases relating to trademarks which have been issued federal registrations, or are pending, on the Principal Register or the Supplemental Register.
One of these databases is TESS, the Trademark Electronic Search System. TESS provides a flexible way for you to search for any federally registered trademark
The second database is TARR, the Trademark Applications and Registration Retrieval system. TARR allows you to search for the application and/or registration status of any trademark. This search engine is less flexible than TESS, as you must know of a specific trademark application or registration to conduct your search, but it provides more details about a mark than TESS.
