What legal steps should I take in employment recruiting?

When hiring a new employee, employers should be wary of discrimination laws, which are trickier and enforced more frequently (and for good reason). Employment laws make it illegal to hire or not hire an individual based upon illegal criteria, such as age, race, gender, disability, or national origin; if employees are hired or not hired based upon these factors, the employer better have a legitimate business purpose to do so.
