What is the Family and Medical Leave Act?

The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) requires that all covered employers provided eligible employees be offered 12 weeks of unpaid leave during any 12-month period for one or more of the following reasons: the birth of a child, placement with the employee of an adopted child, to take care of an immediate family member with a serious health condition, or to take leave when the employee has a serious medical condition.
