What is the Equal Pay Act?

The Equal Pay Act is a part of the Fair Labor Standards Act, passed in 1963, to ensure that people of both genders are paid the same wage for similar work. If you feel you are suffering from pay discrimination on the account of your gender, you should contact an attorney and file a lawsuit or file a claim with the EEOC, which is charged with investigation your workplace to find out whether pay discrepancies exist. An employee who suffers a violation of the Equal Pay Act is entitled to be reimbursed for back wages; moreover, the employer must cease unequal pay policies.
