What is Safety Training?
The number of workplace fatalities has dropped significantly (by more than 60 percent) in the last 35 years despite the increase in workers and job sites in part because of the increase in workplace safety training and government regulations requiring companies to make employees aware of workplace dangers through safety training, which is an OSHA-regulated requirement. Safety training teaches employees how to prevent and respond to work-related illness and injury, through a variety of different means, including on-the-job safety equipment training and weekend seminars or a video during employee orientation.Training should include proper use of equipment, appropriate storage of equipment and materials, how to handle hazardous materials, report injuries and problems, and how to respond to injuries on the job. Unfortunately, ineffective workplace safety policies can lead to an increase in workers compensation claims.
