What does OSHA say about smoking in the workplace?

Although OSHA (the Occupational Safety and Health Act) only bans smoking in elevators, many individual state laws prohibit smoking in the workplace all together, or limit smoking to permitted smoking areas only. Currently, the list of states that prohibit smoking in the workplace include California, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, and New York. Many city and local ordinances also prohibit smoking in the workplace.
