What are the wage laws for employees receiving tips?

Special wage rules apply to employees who receive tips, such as waiters and waitresses, cab drivers, bartenders, and bellpersons. If you receive tips, then most states allow employers to apply up to 50 percent of tips toward the minimum wage if the employee is allowed to keep all of his or her tips; in this situation, $2.13 is the minimum wage.
