Is the child tax credit refundable?

If the amount of your child tax credit exceeds your tax liability (for example, where you are entitled to claim a $2,000 child tax credit but you only owe $1,200 in taxes), you may be able to have the excess amount of your credit refunded via the additional child tax credit.
