Do students have to file a tax return?

It depends. If you meet the threshold income requirements ($7950 for a single taxpayer, $15,900 for married couples) you will still have to file a tax return, even if you are full-time student. Moreover, even if you do fall below the income tax threshold, you will have to file a return if you want and/or expect a refund.
