What is split custody?
Although it is relatively rare, courts will sometimes provide for split custody, an arrangement where siblings are split between parents. In most cases, courts prefer to keep siblings together because of their compatible relationships. However, in extreme cases, courts will provide for split custody where one child expresses a strong, reasonable desire to live with one parent while the other child prefers a different parent. It can also happen where one parent is particularly suited to raise one child while the other parent is better suited to raise the other child.
