What are sources of probable cause?

For a police officer to obtain a search warrant, he or she cannot simply go to a magistrate and declare that he/she has probable cause; there must be some substantiation. In general, law enforcement officials collect information from sources, which include informants, tipsters, victims of crimes, witnesses to the crime, information from official channels (like police radio), and an officer’s own personal observations and investigation.
