What is copyright notice?

Copyright notice is something an author affixes to their work to indicate that they claim a copyright in the work. Although it used to be necessary to include a copyright notice to be entitled to copyright protection, this is no longer the case for works created or published after March 1, 1989. Thus, if you publish a book and do not include any copyright notice, you will still have copyright protection in the book. However, there are certain advantages to including a copyright notice anyway.

Finally, unlike with patents or the registered trademark symbol (R), you do not need to register your copyright to be able to use copyright notice.
