For a general partnership, the charter document which essentially creates the partnership is generally called a statement of partnership. For limited partnerships, this document is generally known as the certificate of limited partnership. By way of comparison, the document that creates a corporation is generally called the articles of incorporation or the certificate of incorporation, and the document which creates an LLC is similarly generally called the articles of organization or the certificate of organization.
